Sinking the Bismarck

My father, Charles Lucas, moved to Redditch from Birmingham when he was 15, in 1935. He met my mother, Margaret Hemming and they married in 1945. Despite having passed al the tests to go into the forces, he was kept back to help with the war effort as he was employed as a welder at the Britannia Batteries in Redditch.
He joined Headless Cross Home Guard under the captaincy of Phillip Terry, the local family who owned Terry's Springs.
Although my father did not see any action, he could proudly say that he made one of the 'paravanes' which sunk the Bismarck and his boss came to congratulate him the morning afterwards.
