During the summer we would play in the 9 acre woods with Exie our leader (Eric Crowther).

When I was an apprentice (1946) working at Shell Haven repairing the Shell damaged hotel, shops, houses, pub. 2 O’clock was the only bus to Grays. I was going to night school and had to leave at 2 for the bus and this meant my boss docked my wages. Four or five of us would cycle to East Ham school of building in all weathers.
