One morning, just as we were about to get up, we heard the sound of a strange motor that passed over the house - from west to east - and suddenly stopped.

We were sure it must be a V1 - although they were unexpected over Lancashire.

And it passed over Darwen, across the moors to the east. It was somewhere over Guide or Knuzden. Although it was largely moor land, it fell on a little row of cottages ... which I believe people were living in. It was terribly sad that it managed to miss the open moor land and hit the cottages

A lot of people said they were launching the V1 off ships in the Irish Sea.
