My father was a regular soldier between the wars, on the 2nd Sept 1939 he was recalled to the colours and returned to his old Regt.'KINGS OWN'Lancasters. On the 15th of September 1939 he was attached to the '10th RAILWAY LABOUR SECTION' and on that day went with the BEF to France, he returned on the 7th of December to Infantry Training Centre. during the following April he rejoined the BEF with the 5th Battalion KINGS OWN and in May moved into Belgium before being driven back to Dunkirk and lifted off the beach in Early June.
The period from April until he arrived back in the UK is documented briefly each day in his diary, however his first foray across the channel with the 10th RAILWAY LABOUR COMPANY in September 1939 is a blank. This unit was renamed on the 6th of December 1939 and was designated 10 COMPANY AUXILLIARY MILITARY PIONEER CORP.
If anyone reading this has any information about this unit, what it was part, what it did and where it was I would be very pleased to hear from them. In the unlikely event that anyone reading this was with the 5th Battalion KORR in Belgium in may 1940, or had a relative in 'D' Company of that Battalion I would be pleased to hear from them with a view to sharing information.
