Prestwick Home Guard

Stan Taylor (front 3rd from left) tells the story that later in the war it was felt that the HQ should move from the colliery to the 'Seven Stars Inn' situated in nearby Ponteland village. One weaon called 'Blockbuster' assumed by description to consite of a large dustbin type object had to be moved to the new HQ. Two members of the unit caught the first available public service bus from Newcastle to Ponteland and was helped by the passengers with the task.
