Just to recall my memories of the war years i was 16 when war broke out and was working at the lichfield laundry I remember when G.I.S. came to Whittington barracks we worked from 8 am untill 8 pm but Thursday night we was givin a 1/2 an hour brake to prepare for our big night. Curling each others hair and sharing each others make-up . One big dash at 8 pm to the landing bay . The G.I.S trucks would back up and most of the girls would pile in off to a dance at the barracks . They would back to the doors of the hall an to would let loose to dance the night away until 10 pm . May I add the doors would be locked after us no-one was allowed out of the hall until it was time to go home . when we got back to lichfield some of the girls would be detailed for fire watching and would have to start work at 8 am the next morning . That is one of my many memories . I think I could write a book on memories.
