My Grandad was a Royal Marine and was on Juno beach for the D-day landings.
He was on one of the landing crafts and for some reason or other he swapped places with a fellow Marine, in what I can only call a very lucky escape for my Grandad.
The man he swapped places with was killed by a bullet that passed straight through the Marine's helmet.
If my Grandad hadn't of swapped places it would have been him that was killed.
Unfortunately he passed away in 2001 but I was and always will be so very proud of him.
He was a true hero.
