My mother had told me very small slippits of information over the years, and said that her father had died in the First World War.
So my husband then went on to the War Graves Commission. The information that he got from there was ... was wonderful because it told me where my grandfather was buried, and how old he was when he died.
He also then ... went into the archives of the local newspaper in Norfolk, where he lived, and got his obituary - and that he'd left wife and children ... he was a person.
And although we all think of how brave people are in the war - on Remembrance Days you think about what people did for you. But all of a sudden I had somebody to think about. He had actually died in the First World War.
And he'd ... he died but I was still here. It all just becme ... real to me. What that must have meant for his wife and children to lose him. I used to think about it quite a lot.
