The US introduced its own war bonds scheme in 1941, when the first US Savings Bond was sold to President Roosevelt by Henry Morgenthau, Treasury Secretary. The US scheme came to an end at the beginning of 1946, after raising a total of $185.7 billion. Some 85 million Americans had invested in the war bonds scheme.
