Osiris
Osiris, a member of the Great Ennead, was not only god and chief judge of the Underworld but also god of resurrection, the Inundation and vegetation. He was represented as a mummified king.
According to the myth of Osiris, he was an enlightened king of Egypt, who was murdered by his jealous brother, Seth, but was resurrected. This myth ensured that he was worshipped at Abydos, his chief cult centre, where his death and resurrection were celebrated annually in a miracle play. He was also universally revered, not least for the hope of eternal life that he held out to all Egyptians.
