Hospice appeal passes milestone | |

| | The appeal to raise money for a new children's hospice to serve the two counties has raised half a million pounds in three months. |
| | | A fundraising appeal to build a new hospice to support local life-limited children and their families has passed £500,000 in only three months.
The Acorns Three Counties Appeal, launched in April, now stands at £538,246.
In June alone, the appeal raised a massive £150,000, with £62,068 generated community fundraising. Worcestershire fundraisers contributed £51,071 and fundraisers in Herefordshire £1,909.
Donations from other areas, individual pledges and donations from companies and trusts made up the remainder of the month’s total figure.
"The donations and pledges we’ve received in June make it our best month so far.
To top the £500,000 mark is fantastic in such a short space of time," said Fran Winterbourn, community fundraising co-ordinator.
To illustrate how the fundraising campaign is going, a tree with a difference has just been ‘planted’ on the site for new children’s hospice in Bath Road, Worcester.
The tree is in fact a fundraising totaliser and indicates the key stages along the fundraising path up to the appeal target of £4m.
"We wanted to put something on site so people can see for themselves the tremendous progress being made with the fundraising campaign and hopefully encourage more people to support the Three Counties Appeal," said Mike Cartledge, project manager for the new hospice.

The new 10-bedded hospice will offer support and specialist facilities for some 150 life-limited children in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire and is expected to open in 2004.
