I have been writing songs since the age of 14. I began playing in Worcester grunge band Five Percent and co-wrote or wrote all their songs. ![]() Flo playing live I now sing and play in another Worcester band, Meridian Point, as well as doing my solo projects. Though I love performing with the band, there is something about writing your own solo stuff that is releasing, yet personal, and I always felt I had another musical dimension within me that I needed to showcase as well. I am perhaps different to many solo acoustic songwriters, in that I never have had any idols within a similar genre. I listen predominately to punk, metal and rock, as well as indie, drum'n'bass, classical and acoustic music, and so my songs can never really be put under one classification, as each one is a little different, and every time I sit down to write a song, my influence will have come from somewhere else that day. 'A Warning', for example, could be a song for a full band; it is rocky and edgy, whereas 'Hangover Blues' has a deep south American, bluesy feel. ![]() Flo Rowland This means my music can appeal to all sorts of people, whatever music you love. I have played at almost every venue I can in and around Worcester, and I am often approached and asked to play at acoustic evenings by organisers such as Monro's Cellar Bar and Bromsgrove's The Back Cross. I played live for the Red Cross charity at Worcester's Christmas Fair in 2006, and have also appeared at Keystones bar. ![]() Flo at Chickenstock I have also graced the stage at local festival 'Chickenstock', I was a runner-up for a place at Coventry's Godiva Festival, and was also given my own headline show at Worcester's Marr's Bar. At 18, I recorded the demo 'This Is So Powerful', at Birmingham's Rich Bitch Recording Studios which I hope to gain me more and more gigs.
