Battle of the Bands winners Da Vinci showcase a two hour rock musical, called Razorblade World, at The Marr's Bar in Worcester on Friday 16 November. ![]() The show, which the band have been working on for two years, features progressive rock and live acting, starring Olivia Crellin as Marielle, Will Close as Jimmy and Ewan Thompson as the evil Doctor Akula. A number of guest musicians are also taking part, including Claire Boswell, who provides Marielle's haunting singing voice around the climax of the show, and professional keyboard player and accomplished classical composer, John Barber. Tickets for the show are £5 advance or £6 door. The show is not suitable for people under the age of 15. Help playing audio/video Declan Sharma is the lead vocalist and song-writer for Da Vinci. He has been working with the band on Razorblade World for two years, and gave this insight into one of the main characters: "The character of Jimmy sees things just beyond the apparent realities of this world - he believes he can detect forms of evil and wickedness by their pungent vapor trails. "He believes he also sees angels - then one night he sees both; an angel in distress surrounded by manifested forces of darkness. "He risks his life to save her, and they both get taken to the asylum, wherein they come across the dark-souled menace... Akula." He says Razorblade World is a journey that releases a powerful energy of hope and strength, but warns that it follows Marielle pretty low before that, exploring issues of abandonment, abuse and self-harm on the way. It is not really for the feint-hearted and urges caution for those who may be affected on a personal level by the subject matter. last updated: 09/11/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Entertainment > Friday Session > Event Previews > Rock Opera premiere |
