John Thompson, from Bromsgrove, is one of the many people to contribute their memories to BBC Hereford and Worcester's Music Map. His band took part in an early version of The X Factor - with the chance to appear on TV and play support to a major star. "In 1962 Malvern Winter Gardens held a rock group contest on Friday night, once a month - the place was packed to the rafters.
"The winner of each heat got to play on Saturday night. "The prize for the (overall) winner was an appearance on ATV's 'For teenagers only' on a Thursday night, to play at Malvern on New Year's Eve, and a very nice trophy. "My band, The Playboys, won it and played with Adam Faith." The band had to give the trophy back, and John wonders what happened to it. He also wonders what happened to the other bands who took part in the contest; The Cossacks from Worcester, Cherokees from Evesham, The Hellions and the Sundowners. If you know what happened to the trophy, or were in one of those bands,or the audience at that New Year's Eve gig with Adam Faith, we'd love to hear from you.
