Flood HeroesYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > People > Flood Heroes > Flood Hero: 4x4 ![]() Flood Hero: 4x4Nominated by Chris Bond Chris nominates the man with a 4x4, who spent several hours rescuing friends and strangers. At around 6pm on the Friday, my wife and daughter became stuck in flooding on the outskirts of Crowle, whilst trying to find her way home to Droitwich. With water coming into the car, she was towed out of the flood water by the kind gentleman from the local garden centre, using his four wheel drive. She was then able to take refuge in the home of our old friends, the Llewellyns, as all roads in and out of Crowle were now blocked. Husband John had left home at 5am to work in Wales - and at that point was trying to get back home (a major feat in itself that night). He got to within a mile or two from home, having to abandon his van and wade through serious flooding and walk the rest of the way. On arriving home at approximately 8pm, John jumped into his Land Rover and returned my wife and daughter back to home to Droitwich, negotiating heavy more heavy flooding and also collecting another couple who were wading through the floods en-route. I later learned that, after dropping my wife and daughter home, instead of returning home himself and enjoying a well deserved rest, he spent the next four hours using his Land Rover to rescue others who had also been stranded that night. My grateful thanks to both John and the gentleman from the Garden Centre in Crowle for their selfless actions that night. last updated: 21/04/2008 at 15:49 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > People > Flood Heroes > Flood Hero: 4x4 |
