Flood HeroesYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > People > Flood Heroes > Flood Hero: Long Drive Home ![]() Flood Hero: Long Drive HomeNominated by Kate Kate was making her way from Wolverhampton to Swansea with her nine-month-old baby when she became stranded on the A44. Beryl and Tony Badley rescued me and my nine-month-old baby Vaughn. We were travelling from Swansea to Wolverhampton to visit my family, and at Ross-on-Wye the police directed us away from the M50 and towards Hereford. After travelling for a while and going through a lot of flood water (and getting very scared), the road came to a standstill on the A44 at Bromyard, where it had been closed. I couldn't even turn around, as the road I had come down was now closed. Beryl and Tony saw me in my car with Vaughn and offered me a bed for the night at their house. They put us up and looked after us. They were fantastic and as they have their own grandchildren they were fab with Vaughn. I cannot thank them enough as I really don't know what I would have done otherwise, as I had never even heard of Bromyard before that Friday night, let alone know where was safe to stay. I eventually got home to Swansea on the Saturday afternoon, after my husband drove from Swansea and managed to find a route that was clear. Once again, I don't know how I could ever have got through that night without being rescued by Beryl and Tony, as I was really upset by the time they saw me at 9pm. I dread to think what I would have been like by the morning. last updated: 21/04/2008 at 15:39 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > People > Flood Heroes > Flood Hero: Long Drive Home |
