Flood heroesYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Features > Flood heroes > Flood Hero: My Day Nursery ![]() Flood Hero: My Day NurseryNominated by Candie Baker The nursery staff who looked after stranded toddlers through the night. My baby son attends a nursery in Birlingham, called My Day Nursery, and was there on the day of the floods. The staff acted quickly and asked us to collect our children, but unfortunately the road was already impassable for my husband in his car. Luckily a member of my staff team at Heathlands Residential Care Home in Pershore, who was heading home to Defford, said she would take me in her 4x4. On the way we saw many nursery parents who were unable to get through. Amazingly we also passed a JCB, which belonged to the husband of one of the staff who had come over to help. He then ferried children from nursery to their parents. Luckily my staff member and I also made it through, although the water was scarily deep, and many others did not make it. Sadly, the nursery were unable to get to all the parents, and some children were stranded, so the staff spent the night with them. The next morning, in a very brave effort to reunite the small children with their parents, the staff waded through deep waters with the children, and got them safely back to their parents. In my opinion that is dedication above and beyond the call of duty, and I am happy to think that my son is cared for by staff of that quality and dedication. I take my hat off to each and every one of them. I am also happy to say that the staff I employ at Heathlands Residential Home in Pershore are also of the same calibre. After helping me to rescue my son from nursery, my colleague was stranded in Pershore until Sunday, unable to make the journey back along the flooded road. In the face of this she continued to work at the home, along with other members of my stranded staff team, and provide care, not only for the residents of the home, but also for flood victims from a local street, Nogains, who had to be evacuated from their homes, and who came to stay at Heathlands. last updated: 27/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Features > Flood heroes > Flood Hero: My Day Nursery |
