I'd like to put forward the landlord and landlady of the Trumpet Inn near Ledbury. By 6pm on Friday evening there were about 80 stranded motorists in their pub, some of whom had been there since lunchtime. ![]() A pint All four roads leading to Leominster, Ledbury, Gloucester and Hereford were impassable, and so we had nowhere to go. The landlord and lady coped with serving coffee, tea, drinks and food to all of us. They put up with our wet clothes on their seats, and I lost count of how many times they ran out of cups, glasses and eventually food. Both of them were only too pleased to help, even though they had a very young baby to look after, and their cellar was completely flooded almost to its ceiling. As a result the landlord was unable to change any of the barrels, and by 9pm the drink was running out. The landlord and landlady looked worn out, but they carried on doing what they could for their 'guests'. By 11.30pm many people had retired to their cars that were in the car park or had been abandoned nearby. However the landlord was very happy to let people remain in the pub, and sleep on the floor, or however they wished. He left the pub open all night trusting us not to take advantage of him whilst he retired to a well earned bed. Early the next morning he was up bright and cheerful and people were able to stay until their routes were clear, whilst he tried to sort out the cellar. I think they are new to the pub trade, but they were both wonderful people on Friday night to many stranded motorists. I did send them a thank you card yesterday as one good turn deserved another. last updated: 26/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Features > Flood heroes > Flood Hero: Trumpet Inn |
