Flood Hero: Fir Tree Inn

The pub that laid on a magic show for its unexpected overnight guests.

My hero is the landlady at Fir Tree Inn, near Fromes Hill.

She took in and fed about 30 stranded people, including a BBC Midlands Today OB crew, and a couple from Hull, who had to abandon their car which was under water.

The phone lines were down but, although some people didn't have enough cash to buy a meal, she still insisted that everyone was fed and watered.

She found bedding and blankets and places to sleep for all of us.

Deck of cards

The pub even put on a disco, and Ali's husband, Keith, turned out to be a bit of a magician so, he and his daughter, Morgan, were entertaining us in the early hours of Saturday morning with magic tricks!

Ali, her family and staff (Sam the chef) could not have done any more.

On Saturday morning Ali ordered breakfast, and Sam set to and cooked for anyone that wanted it.

Nominate your hero or heroine from the July floods - someone who went out of their way to help someone in trouble.
