Flood Hero: Brave boatman

The boatman who worked helping stranded motorists and was also involved in a dramatic rescue.

Nick Harvey is 21, and is a qualified power boat instructor, and a swift-water raft technician.

He went out of his way and offered his services on a voluntary basis from Friday 21 July until the night of Monday 24 July.

He worked non-stop to help rescue stranded motorists, and families, from the raising waters, all over the county.

Flood water in Upton on Severn at night

On Monday night he was involved in the dramatic rescue in Upton-upon-Severn of two teenagers, whose boat had capsized, and were struggling for their lives clinging onto a tree in the water.

He helped rescue the teenagers out of the water, and wrapped them in insulating foil, and took them to safety where the ambulance was waiting to take them to hospital.

He has worked very closely with all emergencies services and should be recognised for his courage and hard work over the last week.

Nominate your hero or heroine from the July floods - someone who went out of their way to help someone in trouble.
