Flood Hero: Droitwich Rest Centre

The Mayor nominates all the people who helped set up a rest centre in the town.

A rest centre was set up in Droitwich Spa at 10.30pm on Friday at the community centre to support flooded areas and motorists stuck on the M5.

David Cowley and Sue Christie from Wychavon arrived, dug in, and spent the whole night at the community centre to help and support others.

They were phoned around 10pm and just threw themselves into the job.

Chris, Richard, Stuart and Simon from the Salvation Army were fantastic, as were two Bromsgrove District Councillors, who's names I do not know, who came and supported on the Saturday.

We needed more food and bedding, so I went to Darryl Bradford at Rossini's at about 11.15pm.

It was closed, but I saw people and lights on in the High Street, with water flooding into their premises.

Darryl was there helping, and so we talked and I made him aware of the rest centre.

At a suitable time he took his whole team back to Rossini's, and made sandwiches for the centre.

The Salvation Army and myself then called for more support.

We got bedding from private hospital (from the night nurses), provisions from Morrisons (from night manager), breakfast and bedding from Stephen Raguz at the Chateau Impney, and provisions from the Town Council caretaker.

Great community support.

Nominate your hero or heroine from the July floods - someone who went out of their way to help someone in trouble.
