The Capital formed in March 2005 after a long history of playing in various bands - John and Dan last played together in 1994 in the band 'Canaan Rose'. The band cite U2, The Strokes and The Stone Roses as influencing their sound. Though they started mainly playing covers, the band's songwriting has been gathering steam. March 2006 saw a change in the line-up with the arrival of Anthony Rooney on bass before a two-year hiatus after former drummer Dan relocated to Australia. The band returned to the gigging circuit after being booked by the Friday Session Introducing to open the 2009 Worcester Music Festival.
