Tastyhead were formed in 2004 by a group of friends who thought emo rock sucked.

Their early gigs were an unprofessional shambolic display of public drunkenness that gathered an unlikely following of young kids with glazed eyes.

After a few months of making discordant out-of-time noise, the group decided to write some actual songs and actually learn how to play them.

At this point, very few venues in Hereford were putting on gigs and the band found themselves playing to wholly inappropriate and sometimes hostile crowds (the Vaga Tavern in Newton Farm springs to mind).

It was from this that the band developed their sometimes confrontational stage act (as well as the reaction of chavs who took exception to their song 'Burberry Blood', and the fact some members of the group had long hair).

By mid 2005 there was a resurgence in the local music scene and the band started playing more appropriate venues and gathering a bigger following.

It seemed that people wanted a mixture of alternative / garage / punk mixed with insulting hecklers and throwing a few dead fish around, had finally found their band.

By the end of the year they had brought in a second guitarist and a new bass player to fatten up the band's sound, and in May 2006 recorded the seven song EP 'Meat' which was generally well received.

The record wasn't welcomed by the people of Newton Farm however, who took great exception to the song of the same name, calling it a slur on their area.

Recently the group even went on BBC Hereford and Worcester's Breakfast Show to defend the song.
