About WorcestershireYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > About Worcestershire > Long train running ![]() Severn Valley Railway Long train runningForty years on from its inception, founders of the Severn Valley Railway have been sharing their memories with BBC Hereford and Worcester's Dave Howard. It's forty years since a group of people took over a length of derelict trackbed abandoned by British Railway and turned it into the Severn Valley Railway - one of the region's foremost tourist attractions. With the railway still going strong, the seventeen surviving members of that founder group have been celebrating their achievement by taking lunch on a special dining train travelling from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth. Four of those pioneers - Roger Hobson, Columb Howell, Terry Brooks and Jeremy ColbornĀ have been talking to BBC Hereford and Worcester's Dave Howard about the continuing success of their pet project. Dave has also been getting nostalgic with some other people who have happy memories of the railway. Victor Smith was one of the original drivers of the Severn Valley Railway and he got the job of driving the celebration train on the railway's fortieth anniversary. Ray Allsopp has also been speaking to Dave Howard about his memories. last updated: 24/10/2008 at 15:03 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > About Worcestershire > Long train running |
