A microphone, a spotlight and an audience who want to entertained - what could be easier than the life of a stand-up comedian? A whole lot of things is the answer. It's not an easy life - what with the constant search for funny material (that no-one has ever done before) and the horrible realisation that you won't know if it's actually funny until you tell it to an audience. Throw in occupational hazards of drunken hecklers and the very real chance of 'dying' on stage and you'll have to admit that the life of a stand-up comedian is not for the faint hearted. But there are compensations - read any comedians biography and you'll realise that there's nothing to compare with the high of having an audience falling about with laughter if you so much as raise an eyebrow. If you've always fancied giving stand-up a go, but have never had the nerve, then you need to get along to the masterclass being run by BBC Hereford and Worcester as part of Red Nose Day. The event is being held at Worcester Arts Workshop on Friday 11th March and on hand to give advice to would-be comedians is Adam Montgomery - a professional comedian based in Malvern who is MC at comedy clubs in Hereford and in Worcester. The whole event will be featured on the Dave Bradley show on BBC Hereford and Worcester. For more information contact BBC Hereford and Worcester's Action Desk on 0845 300 5006. |
