Words from our children's children

by John Hellings - Voices producer BBC H&W
All these ladies are retired and had been employed in jobs, ranging from teaching to health. Their attention turned to the use of words used by their grandchildren.

Voices 2005 - Hallow group

The members of the Hallow group are:

  • Dorothy Capper
  • Freda Davies
  • Doreen Jeeves
  • Mavis Workman

In Worcestershire, we gave four friends who know each other very well, coffee and biscuits.

They all live in the village of Hallow and they are all members of the local Women’s Institute.

Over the coffee cups, they talked about the language they used and how they applied it in different circumstances.

They also discovered words from their childhood that they thought they’d forgotten.

These were words they had not used for years!
