Basingstoke - A Place To Be Proud Of Awards

Nominations are now open for this year's Basingstoke - A Place To Be Proud Of Awards website. It's your chance to help recognise those who have helped make Basingstoke and Deane a special place to live.

The Basingstoke - A Place To Be Proud Of Awards celebrate the best of Basingstoke - rewarding individuals, companies and organisations who have gone out of their way to help the community.

TV gardener Charlie Dimmock will be the celebrity host for this year's awards ceremony which will be held at Festival Place on 13 July 2008.

They'll be full coverage of the awards on BBC Radio Berkshire with interviews with nominees and winners.

The annual event is organised by Destination Basingstoke and has been running since 2003.

Beverley Flanagan, Chairman, Destination Basingstoke, commented: "We are delighted that Charlie will be helping to host this fantastic event. She is someone with great community spirit, which is what these Awards truly represent. We are looking forward to receiving even more nominations this year and we are sure the Awards event in July will be another great success."

BBC Radio Berkshire's Andrew Peach spoke to two past winners of the awards - Janice Roberts was part of the team from the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at the Sports Centre in Basingstoke who picked up an award last year for their work in helping cardiac patients. Hannah Williams won the Good Citizen award in 2005 and has been nominating people ever since.

For further details of how to make a nomination, visit the official Basingstoke - A Place To Be Proud Of Awards website.

Nominations have to be submitted by 18 April and this year there are nine categories:
Arts and Culture Award
Schools and Education Award
Good Citizen Award
Young Achiever Award
Good Neighbour Award
Unsung Hero Award
Health & Care Award
Basingstoke Ambassador Award
