How did you get together as a band? Scott: I've been playing guitar for over 10 years now and I'd always wanted to get into a band. Tom's always been my best mate and was up for being in a band with me. I met Morgan in school, he played drums and was really up for it, and then we met Ben in college and he already played bass. Previously we'd always had problems with bass players, but then Ben came along and sorted it out. Since we've had Ben, we've come on in leaps and bounds. How would you describe your sound? | | Scott in action |
Morgan: Energetic, experimental rock, which is really varied, quite versatile and upbeat. Tom: We don't really like answering that question! We all have a different take on what we sound like. Morgan: We usually have a lot of trouble answering that, so we just give out a long list of different things because we like trying out a lot of different styles. Ben: You can't really call yourself one thing, because then the people who don't like that won't come along - but you can't really just give a long list either because they just won't believe you! You've just completed your first UK tour … how was it? Scott: It was really, really fun - and it was a great experience for us. We all got on really well which was good, some bands can get a bit moody with each other when they go on tour, but we couldn't stop messing about. It was great to play in lots of new venues and meet new people and bands. Any gossip from the tour? | | Bass player, Ben |
Ben: We put a hole through a hotel wall by trying to walk on the ceiling, Tom got cocky and tried to dance on the ceiling. That was on the first night so we played it safe after that! There were no really mad nights, we're pretty energetic on stage so I suppose after the gigs we were shattered. We didn't really know the areas either so we didn't have any mad nights we just kept it cool for the next gig. What if anything do you get chucked at you on stage? Tom: I've had a few bottles thrown at me. Morgan: Tom's chucked tambourines at me before. Tom: I think in general we throw more things than the crowd. Morgan: When we played Manchester we got stuff chucked at us, but the crowd seemed scared of us and a bit shocked - there was an indie band on before us and then we came on and they weren't really expecting us. Tom: I think for what we do we're really lucky we don't get more things thrown at us! Who are your fans? What other music do you think they're into? | | Drummer, Morgan |
Morgan: We really attract a lot of different people, we've got indie people who like us.... Ben: ....and then there's proper rockers and people who like heavier music. That's probably the best thing about our music - we go through such a broad spectrum of sounds... Tom: And age ranges... Scott: We all take on loads of different influences, so you could be into quite a lot of different things. Ben: I think people hear what they want to hear, one person might be thinking 'that's really rocky' and another might be thinking 'that's so experimental' - but because we've put both parts into the song, there's something for everybody. Tom: Theoretically! What was your essential tour item? Scott: Graham! [Their manager] Morgan: Yep, Graham was the essential thing, clean clothes and food! You're off the road and heading into the studio now.. What will you be working on? Morgan: We're doing a three track EP, we haven't recorded these songs before so it's going to be quite interesting. Tom: We're recording in Battery Studios in London which is where The Ramones recorded one of their albums. What's the best thing about Southampton? | | Tom in action |
Ben: The Joiners Morgan: It's like a home, it's so good, they really did look after us and take us under their wing. Tom: It's very underrated. If you were a superhero what would you wear and what would be your special power? Tom: I'd wear Spandex, just any kind of Spandex, any colour and my secret power would be flight. That's a terrible answer isn't it...? Ben: I'd be Superwoman, because then I'd be a woman and would have boobs which would be wicked. Morgan: I wouldn't mind being that thing in X-Files which stretched through the chimneys, that would be quite cool. Scott: I'd just want to be stupidly strong and be able to read people's minds. I'd like to be like Spiderman and Superman put together Do you have a favourite band biscuit? Ben: Jaffa Cakes! Tom: I had a Jammy Dodger today which had white chocolate in the middle. Tip-top check that out! Scott: You can't beat a chocolate Digestive or Rich Tea, they're great for dunking. Morgan: It's all about Banana Bread, I don't really like biscuits, I prefer cake.
