Along with the island's iconic cows Guernsey is also known for its golden goats. Called golden due to the colour of their long hair the breed has become somewhat endangered in recent years, so when 13 kids were born in Peter Girard's flock in March 2009 it really was a cause for celebration. Described by Peter as "very docile... with a lovely colour" he said they are "ideal for the first time goat keeper" and he regularly enters his goats in shows including the West Show at L'Eree to allow people to see the breed and maybe encourage the to start keeping them. The new arrivals were fed on a special powdered milk that is also used for lambs, but even after only a few weeks the kids were beginning to "nibble on hay".
