States ChamberYou are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > States Chamber > All change on 1 April ![]() All change on 1 AprilIt was all change for the islands on 1 April 2009 - did you get caught out? Wednesday 1 April 2009 may have seen more fools than usual as three major changes came into force in Guernsey. Motorists in Guernsey and Alderney had to display insurance discs in their vehicles. This followed the scrapping of motor tax and the delay of plans to make the discs a legal requirement from the end of 2008. The Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Channel Islands and the UK ended. This meant islanders who fall ill while on a trip to the UK and travellers to the islands from the UK will have to pay for some elements of medical treatment. Guernsey postal charges increased due to a Royal Mail price rise. The cost of sending local letters went from 34p to 36p, while the cost of mail to the UK, Jersey and the Isle of Man went from 40p to 43p. last updated: 31/03/2009 at 18:37 SEE ALSOYou are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > States Chamber > All change on 1 April |
