Election 2008

Guernsey's Chief Minister holds the highest elected position within the States of Guernsey and to stand for the position a deputy has to have served in the States for at least four of the past eight years.

They were chosen in the first meeting of the new House, which this year took place on 1 May, by secret ballot after the swearing in of the elected deputies.

At the meeting the nominated deputies, as well as those nominating them, were given five minutes to speak to try and convince the other deputies to give them their vote.

A series of secret ballots were then held to decide the new Chief Minister.

The Ministerial positions will be voted for on Tuesday 6 May.
