Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > John Duquemin John DuqueminJohn Duquemin is a candidate standing for election in the St Sampsons parish. ![]() John Duquemin. At forty years old, I’m just about young enough to remember scrimping to save money for college - but old enough to remember life before the internet and mobile phones. I can empathise with people trying to buy a house - I finally did it last year. I've been a small businessman for five years so Zero-10 is hitting me hard. I've got a baby - the milk increases and school closures haven't gone down well in our house. I share just about every complaint about the States that everybody has and that’s why I've decided to stand. It’s easier to shout from the sidelines but I want to be part of a States that makes the right decisions on behalf of us all. If I could achieve just one thing in the States it would be to reduce congestion. I firmly believe that congestion makes everything else more difficult. It increases the response times of the emergency services, impedes business, makes public transport inefficient and is a disaster for tourism. In partnership with the private sector, I want to reward commuters who travel into work intelligently. As well as easing the rush hour, this will free up parking spaces in town making it a more attractive and accessible place for shoppers and visitors. I'm not a single issue candidate, please see my manifesto for my views on the other issues. Whatever happens in the future, we're all in it together. We must maintain our traditions but be prepared for a fast-changing world, making sure that all our people can prosper in a safe environment. Do please use your vote on April 23rd; it will be a privilege to serve as your Deputy.
