Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Al Brouard ![]() Al Brouard. Al BrouardAl Brouard is a candidate standing for election in the West district. I worked in banking for nearly 30 years gaining much experience of people and the business world. I was elected to the States in 2004 and I have served on the Parish Douzaine for some 10 years. Our island is very special and successful, if re-elected I will continue to work hard for the good of the Island, going forward we have to balance the economic development of the Island, against spoiling the environment and the way of life we all enjoy. I have been involved in many issues over the last 4 years, the "Save our Rural Post Offices" campaign, with your support, gained over 5000 signatures, and was a great success. Industry and Commerce. Zero 10.I voted for the Parkinson amendment. There was in my view no reason for us to be the cheapest in the market place on tax. We did have to change to remain competitive. Environment & Energy. We have some stunning countryside, cliffs and beaches we must ensure they remain clean and unspoilt. Sea level rise is a serious threat and we must start actually strengthening our costal areas. We need to play our part in combating global warming, preparing for the effects and revaluating our demand for the planets resources. As fuel costs rise, we need to look at the opportunity to harness tidal power, and conserving our usage of power. Law and OrderI have vigorously campaigned for the return of Community Policing. Our crime figures have risen continually, this is unacceptable.
