Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Steve Brooks ![]() Steve Brooks. Steve BrooksSteve Brooks is a candidate standing for election in the St Peter Port South district. Zero TenWe need to make the best of the situation that we have forced into by: • Ensuring that zero-ten does not become zero-two. We need every penny that commerce can provide to the States funds and the community. EnvironmentWe have a wonderful habitat on Guernsey for flora, fauna and a whole range of sea life. We can help by ensuring that our green belt and our shore line are not handed over to the developers for building and industrial projects. We should actively encourage green technologies including wave power and waste to energy. Social/HealthAs a nation we should endeavour to protect the low-income families, disabled and aged members of our society. PopulationI suggest that Guernsey is approaching saturation point and would therefore be in favour of a population cap. TransportOf major concern in St. Peter Port is the traffic congestion and parking problems in Town. I am favour of discouraging the use of motor vehicles in favour of the increased use of cycles, public transport and walking by the following means: • Introduction of paid parking at say 50p per hour. SummaryBalancing the budget with so many demands is going to be very difficult indeed. Every sector of the Government, whether it is Education, Health, Public Services and Environment etc, requires major funding in the near future. The next government’s task is to prioritise and fairly distribute available funding, the result of which should be to the benefit of the majority of the Guernsey Public.
