I am a Guernseyman and have lived in St Peter Port South for over 20 years.

With 35 years’ experience of working for the States, my last position being Chief Scrutiny Officer, I have substantial knowledge of States activities.

I know how the States work, what they do right and what they do wrong. I know who to contact and how to get things done. My experience will enable me to contribute right from day one.

Tax and Spending

We must maintain our successful economy. Tax and spending plans must help individuals and industry to thrive.

I would NOT support a “tax more, spend more” approach nor would I support borrowing, other than in the most exceptional circumstances.

Government must prioritise services and control spending and I fully support the proposed fundamental spending review.

The States must be honest. Not all spending demands can be met.

Social Issues

Current social policies are fragmented and unfair. I would seek to change the system and help people through hand ups not hand outs.

I would press for action to combat anti-social behaviour and encourage more personal and social responsibility.

More must be done for people in their old age, through the pension system and with better services.

Population

The present controls on population are totally unsatisfactory. In principle I do not believe that overall population levels should be allowed to rise.

Good government

Good government requires a balanced and inclusive approach, with openness, transparency and proper consultation. I will always listen to the public.
