Guernsey born and bred, I have values of hard work and respect for others, this with common sense and an analytical mind means that I carefully weigh up the facts before making a decision. I believe decisiveness will be needed in the new States.

Deputies need to regain the trust of the People. To do this Deputies have to have real accountability, coupled with a willingness to work together, openly, and not indulge in petty, self-interest, politics. 

Previous governments have not invested sufficiently in the Island (health, housing, education, airport, waste etc) and so we are facing major capital expenditure challenges which will need to be very carefully controlled.

There must be robust control of costs ensuring public services will be maintained without increasing the tax burden on the ordinary Guernseyman. But, with limited funds available increases in spending in one area have to be matched by a reduction in spending in another. The suggestions that sufficient "savings and efficiencies" can be made is superficial and simplistic. Difficult decisions will be needed. My experience shows that I can make tough, decisions.

The finance industry continues to be important but we need to build a more diversified economy, therefore Departments must work together in a "can do" way to encourage new businesses. The challenge will be to do this while controlling immigration and, most importantly, maintaining the Island’s environment and unique quality of life. 

It’s a priority for Government to attack poverty and help those who are less well off have a fair share of Guernsey’s opportunities, there is also a responsibility on everyone to take the opportunities which are available and not expect to "live off the State" - A step up, not a hand out.
