Election 2008

My name is Ivan Roberts and I have put my name forward as a candidate for the South East where I was born and have lived all my life.

I am an Electrical Engineer and have operated from a St Martins base for the last 25 years, I have been in the same business for nearly forty years and during that time I have grown very used to dealing with people, which I enjoy very much. If elected however my intention would be to give up my business and devote all my time to my position as a deputy.

I believe the next four years will be very challenging for the new house with such a high number of newcomers and some very difficult, and needless to say costly decisions to be made, I feel that continuity is very important and that it is vital that some of our most senior members are retained as their expertise is invaluable.

The new house will doubtless have to prioritise a list of budgetary demands which seems endless, Education, (I am against the closure of any primary schools). Sea Defences, Waste Disposal, Sewage Disposal and Treatment, (I feel that we cannot go on disposing of all our raw sewage at sea as we do at present), the list just goes on and on.

Coupled with this we must make suitable land available for homes for first time buyers and premises for small businesses alike.

I feel that over the last four years the public have been ignored by this last house, Not considered or consulted on important decisions, I would like to see this change with more information made more freely available to everyone.

I think with my business experience I would have something to offer here.
