Since 1997 I have had the privilege of serving you as a Castel Deputy. For me, they have been fascinating years of hard work, not always easy, and often filled with frustration. There is still much to do, changes to make and goals to achieve.

The first is to preserve Guernsey's responsible, stable and mature democracy, fiscal independence, legislative competence and independent judiciary, thereby maintaining our right of self-determination and a separate "Guernsey" identity.

I continue to support the provision of a high quality education system for all, and essential 'life long learning' and training. I do have concerns over the likely closure of some primary schools. I support the Education Development Plan, particularly the rebuilding of Beaucamps and Mare de Carteret schools.

The States should underwrite private investment so that essential infrastructure for both solid and liquid waste disposal can proceed immediately. Both existing forms of disposal are becoming untenable to the public.

Many of these challenges are for our Island as a whole, but I have been keen to ensure the maintenance of our excellent parochial system and served as Policy Council link for the Guernsey Douzaine Council.

When approached by parishioners with specific problems, I have always endeavoured to resolve them satisfactorily and to alleviate peoples’ concerns.

I often consult contacts and friends for their opinions on forthcoming proposals and welcome approaches from parishioners. Even then, some decisions are difficult and do not always follow the "popular view" as expressed in the Press or on "phone-ins".

I shall continue to seek a wider opinion from you before entering each States debate if elected.
