Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Peter Leigh ![]() Peter Leigh. Peter LeighPeter Leigh is a candidate standing for election in the Vale parish. Parishioners in the Vale will know me from the Hampshire Lodge, I am 54, have a wonderful partner and 3 children and 11 grandchildren I am the President of the GLVA, also on Crime Prevention Panel and Police and Public Consultative Group. I think what is needed in the States is less legislation on matters that are not important and get on with what must be an issue every election, waste, sewage and now the runway. The runway is important without that, what use the terminal, for years we have been told that Gatwick wants to get rid of smaller aircraft. If we don’t sort it soon we will not be able to afford it in the future I also believe island wide voting should be the norm. Issues before the states affect the whole island not just your parish. Soon we will pay to park, to encourage us all to use the bus but they are too few and far between for most islanders to use and get to work by nine. What about free spaces for those that have more than 1 person in the vehicle. We have schools that need desperately to close and be refurbished yet we want to close schools that are excellent in their teaching. I don’t agree with throwing people out of States Houses they have been in for years, most of these people have passed the mortgage age. If you don’t pay your rent you’re not thrown on the street so why penalise the ones who do. Overspending is obviously an issue, someone must be accountable and somebody should be controlling the spend as it goes along. As a candidate the only promise I can make is to do the best I can for an island I love.
