Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Mark Dorey Mark DoreyMark Dorey is a candidate standing for election in the Castel parish. ![]() Mark Dorey. In my six years in the States, I have gained considerable experience and understanding. I am currently the Deputy Housing minister and a member of Treasury and Resources and Social Security. I have solid Guernsey values and common sense together with a logical mind. After extensively researching a subject I carefully weigh up the facts before voting or speaking in the house or at a department meeting. I want a caring and fair society with a vibrant diversified economy and an efficient focussed government on an island that is not further over developed or over populated. Population - Over population is the greatest threat to our quality of life. I seconded the amendment to keep the population at approximately the current level. Housing - We must continue to improve the quality of social housing and support the Housing Association to build new houses. Education - Les Beaucamps and La Mare de Carteret need to be rebuilt. Capital Spending - £20m target is insufficient. Economy - The finance industry must be fully supported together with other suitable profitable industries to broaden our economy. Taxes - I am opposed to a Goods and Services Tax. Waste - I seconded the amendment for alternatives to an Incinerator. Sewage – I support a treatment plant funded by a waste water charge. Development - The rural countryside must be protected. Some limited private residential development is needed near our rural centres. Land should be allocated to industry in the correct locations for local entrepreneurs.
