Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Keith Wilen ![]() Keith Wilen. Keith WilenKeith Wilen is a candidate standing for election in the St Peter Port South District. I've been living in St. Peter Port South for a number of years and this is the first time I've stood for election. I'm standing because I believe I can help our island continue to be a great place to live and work. The next House faces a number of tough challenges. We need a Government that can face these issues with the confidence to make the difficult decisions. We need a fresh perspective in the States and if elected I hope to help the Government work together to deliver solutions to our problems. There are three priorities that must be addressed in the next House: Business GrowthThe success of Zero-10 relies on helping business grow. Without this, Government ability to deliver new projects and services will become extremely limited. If elected it is my priority to help provide an environment in which business can thrive. EnvironmentClimate change is a real problem facing the world and I believe that it is important that Guernsey plays its part in tackling the problem. There are many opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint. I support investigation into tidal power, measures to reduce vehicle use and energy saving initiatives for both business and home. Solid WasteThe Mont Cruet landfill site is predicted to be full in 2015. Two terms of Government have delayed solving this pressing problem. If elected I will push for a commitment to a solution for waste disposal. Providing kerbside recycling is also essential to reduce our waste. Businesses must play their part and I support incentives to encourage companies to reduce and recycle the high volume of commercial refuse.
