Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Robert Broome ![]() Robert Broome. Robert BroomeRobert Broome is a candidate standing for election in the St Sampsons parish. Why I decided to standI decided to stand as a candidate because I believe that the ordinary working/family man isn’t being represented in the States. I feel that you need people from all walks of life, for there to be a better balance in our Government. I was born in Guernsey, and have a large family. Because of this I feel that I understand how hard it is for families and pensioners to manage on a fixed budget, with ever increasing financial pressures being put on them by recent decisions that have been taken. I would like to see: EducationI believe we shouldn't be looking at closing schools. We should be investing more in Education. Our children are our future and we have to make sure that they leave school well equipped for life. HousingI would like to see more help being given to people who want to buy their own homes. We also need to ensure that the renovations on States Houses, which are standing empty, are completed as soon as possible so that families in need can be housed. HealthI believe that everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances should have access to the best healthcare that the island can provide. EnvironmentWe live in a beautiful Island and we need to ensure it stays that way. We need to make sure that the excellent work that has already been done with recycling continues and grows. We also need to look after our waters with regards to our fishing industry. It is also imperative to put in tighter controls when investing in big projects. The money saved can then put to greater use for the benefit of our island community.
