Election 2008

0-10 Time to move on and use some initiative in filling the rest of the black hole. Two distinct bodies of opinion are emerging which I will call the POSITIVES and the NEGATIVES. I stand in the POSITIVE camp and would support all efforts to nurture what we have to maintain our financial security. WIN-WIN solutions are possible.

Population & Environment

Three on-island sources of labour need to be developed. More retired people could be encouraged back into work (There are about 10,000 retirees!). Social Security thresholds need to be re-visited to encourage those on benefits back to work. The Open Market could be made more attractive to the very wealthy. No population growth would result from these three groups. Tidal power could do for Guernsey what North Sea oil did for the UK.

Airport

Maintenance of the runway is now an URGENT PRIORITY. Any further downgrades of the runway would have disasterous economic consequences.

Education, Health & Housing

All big budget services that are totally dependent on a thriving economy. Allocated budgets need to be wisely and FAIRLY invested to provide the best services for ALL Islanders.

St. Peter Port, Law & Order, Youth

With the introduction of paid parking there will be more scope for Resident's Parking. New Douzaine accommodation is planned to include youth and creche facilities. The whole of Guernsey should be a NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH AREA. Our police need OUR support.

Machinery of Government

We should have a team working together in an open and transparent way. We regularily have suffered playground politics, back-stabbing, overspends and the rest. I would like to promote a TEAM SPIRIT. The needs of Guernsey come first. Deputies are firstly servants of the people and egoistical ambition needs to come a very poor second.
