The EnvironmentI believe this to be my chance to help. If elected, I would fight to see that Guernsey becomes a major player in the development of tidal power, a clean, safe, reliable alternative to oil powered electrical plants. I am not living in a dream world, I know this will not happen overnight. However, delaying the implementation of developing this exciting area in our own waters is a mistake, one that could cost Guernsey in years to come. EFWGuernsey needs to build an EFW plant, there are no two ways about this. The plant should be of the highest priority. Once we have such EFW capabilities we shall not only have the means to effectively dispose of our waste and a more reliable energy source but also be taking the next step towards a sewage treatment plant. EducationHaving recently left the education system myself I am in the unique position of being able to give my view of what works and that which does not from the perspective of a student. The introduction of Smartboards (a computer based fully interactive white board) sounds great on paper. I believe the introduction of this “smart”-board to have been a push to make our schools technologically up-to-date, what they really did was disrupt lessons, stress the already over worked teachers and break at the most important moments. Student LoansThe states should be focusing on how to make it easier for students to achieve a higher level of education, not throwing road blocks in the way of every turn. With this in mind I would endeavour to do everything humanly possible to make it easier for families of all backgrounds to send their sons/daughters through university.
