Guernsey through to Muratti FinalIt was a game of two completely different halves as Guernsey secured their place in the final with a four nil victory over Alderney.
Official(s):
Attendance:200 It was only five minutes before Guernsey put the first goal away through a header by Simon Tostevin. Alderney's Keeper Jamie Laband got a hand to it but it bounced off his crossbar and into the net along with Laband. It was an exceptional save from Laband that stopped Guernsey following this straight up. Guernsey kept the pressure on and soon earnt a corner which resulted in the ball again hitting the back of the Alderney net, but Guernsey's celebrations were cut short as the goal was disallowed due to pushing. It was the seventeenth minute when Guernsey extended their lead to two as Ross Allen drilled the ball home after the Alderney defence failed to clear their lines. Four minutes later Dave Rihoy joined the scorers list as his shot from outside the box flew past the fingertips of Laband. Despite being beaten three time the young Alderney keeper, who was making his debut, did well to keep his composure and make several crucial saves. ![]() 1st Goal: Simon Tostevin in the air. But with all the play going the Sarnians way the constant pressure told. Good work on the ball by Captain Matt Warren set Ross Allen up with a chance on goal which he chipped with his right foot over Laband to make it four nil. Good defensive work from Alderney kept it that way for the next few minutes until half time. For the second half the wind had picked up and had a major impact on play. Alderney's decision to play against the wind in the first half did not seem the best choice with hindsight. It looked like a different Alderney side who came out after the break as the home side had their first real chance of the game within three minutes which was only kept out by a brilliant diving save from Keeper Jody Bisson. This is where Alderney's team play seemed to let them down which was characterised by a lack of communication between Liam Davey and Michael Bohan who ended up going down in a heap as they collided going for the same ball. With the near gale force winds Alderney's long balls were made more in hope than in expectation. One shot from outside the box which had been heading for the goal was whipped right over the bar by the wind. ![]() 4th Goal: Ross Allen chips Jamie Laband. Guernsey put the pressure back on as Simon Tostevin put Dominic Heaume through on goal. Laband stopped the shot but failed to hang on to the ball and it went out for a corner. This was cleared despite another clash by Alderney players going for the same ball. The rest of the half was characterised, if not ruined, by the high winds as Guernsey held onto their 4-0 lead and secure their place in the Muratti Vase Final at Footes Lane on Sunday 6th May.
