No Guernsey footballers in RhodesNo Guernsey footballers will be taking part in the Island Games in Rhodes in 2007. The decision was made by the GFA's board of directors who upheld the ruling made earlier this year and also decided not to send the women's team. In March 2006 the GFA Council rejected a proposal to send the men's senior football squad to Rhodes amid concerns about health, safety and security. The Greek side withdrew from the Guernsey Games in 2003 and imposed life bans on some of its players after the match with the Sarnians was abandoned. When the decision was announced earlier this year the Island Manager and players along with many others, voiced their disappointment. It was hoped it might be reversed following a re-organisation of the Association, but on Monday 4th September the GFA voted not to send the men's and women's teams to the Games. last updated: 30/05/2008 at 12:24 You are in: Guernsey > Island Games > About the Games > No Guernsey footballers in Rhodes |
