Mid Carson Coalition - Bring Me To The Ashes Cover

The Mid Carson Coalition – Bring Me To The Ashes

Young four piece The Mid Carson Coalition bring a chunk of metal-core sound to Guernsey’s otherwise poppier young punk movement.

The debut EP by The Mid Carson Coalition presents Guernsey audiences with something a bit different to the current crop of emo-punk-pop bands appearing on the circuit by taking a slightly harder edge to the music and producing a CD with fully comprehensive concept packaging to boot.

Starting up with a shredding guitar sound that instantly indicates their more metal tinged edge 'Cut To The Car Chase' continues as a screamo metal blast that combines the singing/screaming juxtaposition of early My Chemical Romance or The Used with the more metal edged music of bands like Killswitch Engage.

'Bleeding in Black And White' starts out with a scuzzy riff that soon transforms into a sound similar to the newer releases by bands such as Avenged Sevenfold with a vocal that sounds a lot more like the heavy metal shouts of late 90's/early 00's metal than the typical emo or scremo style present today.

The metal style musicianship continues on 'As One' while the vocal takes a turn for the cleaner more harmonised approach which provides a contrast to some of the other tracks on the disc and shows how the band are capable of moving around the metal core genre and don't fall into the trap of many similar bands who fall into the genre of sounding too same-y as this track culminates in a truly pounding moment.

‘Love.Light.Lies…’ continues the metallic edged sound similar to bands like Bullet For My Valentine but then adds in a dual vocal track which provides an extra layer to the sound and to the meaning of the song, showing how the harmony and scream can come together to great effect as the song switches musically form a metallic sound to punkier styles with a slower mid section providing a fine contrast to the rest of the track.

The discs penultimate track, 'Set my Signet on the Biter' starts out reminiscent of Korn’s 'Blind' before continuing with a slow building instrumental section that builds through melodic guitar and bass work into a heavy riff based piece, before the vocals come in and continue the tracks development through speedier passages and heavier passages before ending with a slower instrumental reminiscent of the opening.

'Tonight With Lay Jenno' rounds of the EP with a back to basics metal core sound taking notes from emo, hardcore and metal in equal measure to present a track that rounds off the disc perfectly showing us just what this band are capable of.

Overall the Mid Carson Coalition’s 'Bring Me To The Ashes' EP provides a refreshing antidote to many of Guernsey’s younger bands by providing something more by the numbers pop-punk, by mixing elements of the more emotional sound with hardcore elements and good old fashioned metal.
