Guernsey Volleyball players take a timeout

Guernsey Volleyball players timeout.

Tuesday's results

The latest news from the Games.

Archery

There was a bronze medal in the archery for Guernsey's Mike Appelqvist in the Men's FITA Compound Event.

He was only one point off the Gold medal spot which had to be decided on countback. A fantastic first games so far for Mike who only took up Archery a year or so ago.

Steve Yates meanwhile, just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth.

Caroline Pinchmain just missed out on a medal in the Women's event.

Those results mean that in the Compound Team event Guernsey came second to the Faroe Islands securing Silver over third place Jersey who picked up Bronze.

Athletics

It was a golden evening for Guernsey at the track. Lee Merrien won the men's five thousand metres in a time of 15.08.90, with Steve Dawes finishing seventh.

Meanwhile Guernsey's golden girl, Kimberley Goodall left the rest of the field standing in the Women's 400m in a time of 58.32 seconds.

Tom Druce fought off the wind and some stiff opposition to take Gold in the Men's 800m. He did it in a time of one minute 56.58.

There was a bronze for Louise Perrio in the Women's 1500m.

Dale Garland took the Long Jump in his stride to finish top of the podium.

Erica Bodman's Gold medal came thanks to a leap of 1.63 metres in the High Jump.

Gemma Tingay missed out on a medal in the hammer throw finishing ninth overall.

Badminton

In the Singles, Guernsey Elena Johnson is through to the final in the Women's event where she'll face Marianna Agathangelou from Jersey.

Football

Guernsey's women finally got their first point yesterday following a two all draw with host island Shetland. Catherine Hennessy was on target twice for the green and whites who were without suspended captain Lisa Sylvester.

Sailboarding

Guernsey's James Briggs landed a spectacular gold in one of the toughest events in the Island Games - the long distance race from Braye to Aith and back. Teammate Tim Laine took bronze.

Shooting

Sark is this evening celebrating it's first ever gold medal at the Island Games. Alexander Williams won shootings English Sporting individual event.

In the same event Guernsey's Vincent Helmot took the Bronze.

Another Gold for Guernsey as June Batiste and Nikki Trebert beat Gotland by 3 points to take the Air Pistol Women's Pair's event.

Swimming

There were more medals in the pool last night, with records being broken all over the show. It was Silver for Guernsey's Ian Powell in the Men's 400m Individual Medley who led the way for a number of laps only to be overtaken by a very strong Ceasarian, Daniel Hawksworth.

Next up and a Guernsey Gold and Bronze in the Women's 200m breaststroke. A Channel Island 1,2,3 seems to be a pretty common sight on the podium. This time is was Gail Strobridge taking gold with Christine Hume putting in a great performance for bronze.

Another Channel Island 1,2,3 this time with Guernsey's Tom Hollingsworth and Ben Lowndes taking Silver and Bronze respectively in the 100m butterfly. Then in the next event silver turned to gold for Matthew Robert in the 50m breaststroke after Jersey's Damien Bouchere was disqualified on a technicality.

Gold and Silver for Guernsey in the 200 metre freestyle, Jonathan Le Noury taking his second gold in two nights competition and a new Island Games record to boot. Ben Lowndes had the Silver.

Another medal for Gail Strobridge who took silver in the 200m individual medley and the final medal of the night came courtesy of the Men's 4 x 50m freestyle relay who only just lost out on the gold to Jersey, so yet another silver for Guernsey.

Table Tennis

Guernsey have won Gold in the Table Tennis Team Event. The match against Gotland went to the full seven sets. and Guernsey finally came out on top.

Volleyball

Bermuda were too powerful for the Guernsey men winning three sets to one.

Guernsey took on rivals Jersey and coach John Marley said they have to beat them.

Well Jon Marley's men did as instructed and beat Jersey. He'd said he'd have to have serious words with the team if they didn't beat the other island, so at least that will be avoided. Guernsey saw them off by three sets to one.
