Island Games Badminton action.

Monday's results

Keep up to date with the latest from the second day of the Island Games.

Athletics

Alderney's first ever track medal was won by Nikki Neal winning silver in the women's ten thousand metres in a time of 37 minutes 27.8 seconds.

Lee Garland didn't pick up a medal despite finishing second in the 400 metre hurdles in 57.17, as only three athletes took part.

Bowls

Guernsey Bowlers at the Island Games.

Laura Arblaster was delighted with a silver medal in the triple jump with a giant leap of eleven metres 21 centimetres, well past her personal best.

Robbie Titterington and Nathan Stevens are through to the finals of the men's 200m after securing their places by coming second and third in the first of two semi final heats.

Badminton

In the badminton team event Guernsey have lost to their arch rivals Jersey in the Semi Final 3-2.

Guernsey were defending their Gold Medal but instead found themselves playing Greenland for the Bronze medal. In the play off Guernsey won 3-1 taking third place and the Bronze.

Cycling

Guernsey's James Carling has won Silver in the Men's Mountain Bike Criterium after a marathon effort trying to catch the Isle of Man's Andrew Roche, in the process completely exhausting himself, but Roche was on top form and completely unstoppable. The podium was completed with another Channel Islander as Jersey's James Patterson took Bronze.

Football

Guernsey's Mens footballers were forced to dig deep and come back from 1 nil down to win against the Western Isles at the Island Games in the Shetlands.

Their opponents were unknown entities as this is their first Island Games ever and at half time the Guernsey boys were 1 goal down.

Guernsey had to work hard to first of all bring the game back to level with an equaliser from Ryan-Zico Black in the 49th minute and then ten minutes Black again scored to give Guernsey the lead. The team then put in a spirited performance to keep hold of the lead until the final whistle.

Meanwhile Guernsey Women's football captain Lisa Sylvester saw red after a professional foul against Bermuda. The green and whites were simply outclasssed, but being reduced to ten players after just half an hour didn't help matters as Bermuda ran out comfortable 8 nil winners. Sylvester later admitted she'd let the side down.

Indoor Bowls

Double gold for Guernsey in the Men's and Women's Fours. The Men took on rivals Jersey in the final taking the lead in the fourth end and not looking back final score 23-11. Guernsey's Women also dominated their game against the Isle of Man. Following an early lead in the third end they stormed to victory 23-7.

Sailing

In the Laser Radial Rig after three races Paul Harris is in 5th and Ben Creasey is 9th with six races to go.

Shooting

It was silver again for Sark, this time in the ISSF Automatic Ball Trap Team. Again it was Nick Dewe and Stefan Roberts taking the honours but frustratingly for them they only narrowly missed out on the gold again.

Squash

In the new sport on the block, Guernsey's Squash team took silver in the team event after losing out on the gold to Jersey.

Swimming

It started with a gold in the men's 1500 metre freestyle for Jonathan Le Noury.

Matthew Robert took bronze in the men's 100 metre breaststroke.

It was silver and bronze in the men's 200 metres butterfly for Thomas Hollingsworth and Ian Powell respectively. But Hollingsworth took gold in the Men's 200 metres individual medley, Ian Powell again taking bronze and Hollingsworth - that man again - followed this up with gold in the men's 50 metres backstroke, setting two new island games records in his first night in the pool.

A team silver in the Men's 4 by 50 metre Medley Relay - finishing one second behind arch rivals Jersey. The women got a bronze in the Women's 4 by 50 metres freestyle relay.

In the Women's 400m Individual Medley Golden Girl Gail Strobridge became silver girl, coming second to Gotland swimmer Ida Sandin.

But Jennifer Salmon went one better and landed gold in the Women's 50 metres breaststroke.

Table Tennis

Guernsey's will play Gotland on Tuesday for a gold medal. After thrashing Aland and overcoming a tricky tie against Greenland the Sarnians saw off host island Shetland in the semis to take their place against one of the pre tournament favourites at Sandwick Junior High School.
