It was really weird to see Philip again after all these years. | | John Rockley |
BBC Radio Gloucestershire's mid morning presenter John Rockley was surprised on air this week during an interview with his special guest, actor Jerome Flynn. Jerome happened to mention that his understudy for his role of Tommy Cooper in the smash-hit comedy Just Like That! - a celebration of the life of Tommy Cooper - was none other than the person who'd appeared with John on the BBC TV programme Jim'll Fix It... twenty years ago!!!!!! | | | John Rockley in 1985... | ...and 20 years later |
John had not seen Philip Hoyles since the two of them appeared alongside impressionists Dustin Gee and Les Dennis in 1985. The youngsters had performed a series if impersonations with the comedy duo - including impressions of Prince Charles, Jimmy Cricket, and Mr. Rigsby from Rising Damp. Reunion
Straight after his radio show John rushed over for a reunion at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. | | The pair reunited in 2004 |
He said: "It was really weird to see Philip again after all these years. I remember him as being quite shy. It's really good to see him doing so well in his career on the stage." And Philip too, was just as shocked. "I remember John complaining that he didn't have a star on his dressing room door", he said. "It doesn't look like anything's really changed!"
